One thing that I really liked when I did not have a laptop that I could take back and forth with me from school to home was portable applications.
Mainly the portable application that I really loved to use was portable FireFox.
Portable FireFox, allows you to take your FireFox, all your saved passwords, all your saved user names, and all your other customizations to FireFox on the go with you, and you don't have to worry about your information being stored locally on the public computer you are running the portable application from.
FireFox portable is just as easy to use as regular FireFox is, and there is no real special steps in getting it set up.
